Welcome to Firstcall…. its been just over 20yrs since we started landscaping, much has changed but the essentials remain the same, keeping the customer happy.

Here at Firstcall we like to think that if it’s in the garden whether it be back or front, we can make it look so much better than it does now. For many years we laid driveways and patios and then moved into fencing, so the whole garden is transformed by the time we leave.

Most of our installations are for the rear garden however front garden fencing is now very popular as often allows more room for the entry and exit of motor vehicles and is often a cheaper option.

Driveways

High quality Driveway Installations

Well, you may be looking to install a new driveway, or your current driveway may now be looking a bit tired and in need of an upgrade to bring it back to life, with so many different finishes it can be confusing. But normally when thinking about a new driveway try to be sympathetic to the finish of your house, not adding something which clashes is usually a good start, obviously the cost can vary hugely from a cheaper gravel drive where it’s just about spreading the gravel on some type 1 crushed concrete or a full excavation and a top-quality product finish such as granite etc.

So the lessons from laying many drives over the years drives probably includes going as large as possible as there are always times when you need to squeeze another car on the drive also try not then compromise it by having reduced entry or exit points via brick walls and try to keep a small area of green maybe a tree or small bushes to break up all that new hard standing block paving. A well-designed and laid driveway should give you between 15-25 yrs. of life depending on the finish, gravel block paving Tarmac Resin etc.

Patios

Stunning Patio Installations

There are several different styles of patio, but generally they all do one important job and that should be to enhance the areas of the garden where its laid, and a truly practically way to utilize the rear of the house, patios can come in many different styles and finishes some with steps down from the house and the garden, if there is a pre-existing hard standing area we can of use this as a base without the need to excavate the whole area and start again, an edging or a wall can be added and to the front of the patio and the paving added from there.

Now to the finishes… well patios are generally finished in slabs of all different shades and sizes, project packs come in different shapes and sizes or all the same size, for many years i have laid Indian sandstone slabs which can be pointed to finish, obviously porcelain tiles/slabs are now in vogue as they have slick finished look. There are several websites that give you a good perspective of your potential patio build and the materials that you can used one such website is Marshalls.co.uk.

Once the patio is laid its then usually the simpler matter of taking care of the area, generally just keeping it free of any moss or leaves etc which can settle there and can leave deposits on the slabs, apart from that just enjoy it and bring on those BBQ evenings!
